Aira Home App
The Aira Home app
The Aira Home app is used by customers owning an Aira Heat Pump to control their indoor temperature and hot water.
What is Aira?
With residential heating as one of the biggest CO2 emitters, Aira is on a mission to decarbonise Europe.
By replacing gas boilers with heat pumps the goal is to make heating up the house and water smarter.
What is the product?
An Aira customer buys a heating system for their home. It consists of a set of hardware pieces:
a heat pump placed outside the home
an indoor unit with a LED strip
a water tank for domestic hot water
a thermostat
The system can be controlled by using the Aira Home app, and this is where I come in.
When I joined the team
I joined the team about 6 months before the app was launched to the world. At that point the responsibility of the team had rapidly and quite unexpectedly increased. The status of the app was about “good enough” with core functionality ready and a sleek UI.
A user could control their system with basic functionality. There was not much to see or learn about the system.

Spicing up cards on Home
Background: On the Home screen there are two feature cards displayed that inform the user what their current indoor temperature is as well as how much hot water is left in the tank.
Problem: The user don’t know what the system is doing right now and need to go into the feature to see what target temperature they selected.
Solution: Updated design of the cards to display information about what the system is doing, as well as the target temperature.
Bonus: The design of reducing the card height and stacking them allowed for longer texts before wrapping. Also providing scalability if more features are added.
